What Is Truth

In today’s society, the line between truth and lies is blurred.  How do you know what is true?  Where can we turn for help in determining truth?  In a court of law, a witness is asked to tell “the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God.”  Where can we find the truth so we can choose correctly?

God is the One who helps us find the whole truth about life.  Because God always reveals truth, not error, He is the source of all truth.  God inspired the Bible so believers can know His truth that guides to salvation, provides direction for life, and equips us to do good works.  The Holy Scriptures are God’s truth, given on His authority.  We should study them and live by them.

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”  2 Timothy 3:16-17

Through Jesus we can know God and His truth.  Jesus revealed God through His words and His actions—especially through His miracles.  Throughout His earthly ministry, He displayed His intimate, continuous relationship with His Father.  In Jesus, we should all recognize God’s truth and how He directs us to live our lives.

The Holy Spirit brings glory to Jesus by enabling believers to know and to understand God’s truth as Jesus revealed it.  The Holy Spirit also helps us to learn and recall what is true and to apply God’s truth to our lives.  God is truth.  He is the constant in our sometimes chaotic and always ever-changing world.

“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.  John 16:13
