Tag: WALKING WITH OUR SAVIOR

How are you doing in your daily Christian walk?  Sometimes, I feel very comfortable about my spiritual life and at other times, not so good.

In thinking about this, it occurred to me that, perhaps, my approach was wrong.  Scripture tells us that we cannot earn our salvation; it is a gift from God that must be received.  Yet, the Christian has responsibilities in how he lives his life.  We are told by our Savior that, “if you love Me, you’ll keep my commandments”.  (see John 14:15).

At times, my thoughts went like this: I know gaining salvation was easy on my part once I decided to accept Jesus; and now the work begins, because Jesus says we are to be fruitful.  In John, chapter 15, He talks much of our need to be fruitful.  In Verse 8, He says, “By this My Father is glorified that you bear much fruit; so you will be my disciples”.  There is much more in this chapter, including Jesus’s reminder that He is the vine and we are the branches; and that we are fully dependent on Him.  In spite of all this, somehow for a long time, I looked at this as WORK – DRUDGERY.

As I have matured, I have begun to see my walk with Jesus quite differently.  Something clicked as I read Matthew 11:28-30.  Here Jesus tells us to come to Him if we labor and are heavy laden; He will give us rest.  Taking His yoke, because it is easy and His burden is light.

Not only this, but Jesus also has said that we have a Helper, the Holy Spirit.  The Father sends the Spirit to us in Jesus’s name.  We are not alone in the work; we have a Helper to always be with us.  He will lighten any burden.  The Holy Spirit will “teach us all things and cause us to remember all that Jesus has taught us”.

With Jesus as our Savior, we are never alone. This hymn reminds us:

I’VE SEEN THE LIGHTNING FLASHING, AND HEARD THE THUNDER ROLL;  I’VE FELT SIN’S BREAKERS DASHING, TRYING TO CONQUER MY SOUL;  I’VE HEARD THE VOICE OF MY SAVIOR, TELLING ME STILL TO FIGHT ON, HE PROMISED NEVER TO LEAVE ME, NEVER TO LEAVE ME ALONE.

REFRAIN:  NO, NEVER ALONE, NO NEVER ALONE, HE PROMISED NEVER TO LEAVE ME, NEVER TO LEAVE ME ALONE.                                                     Anonymous
