Gal. 5:16.  “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”  The Holy Spirit Who indwells us at the time of our being “born again” wants to lead us.  He wants us to walk in Him.  Why?  We are saved.  We have the Word of God to direct us.  We have a new beginning.  Why is it necessary to humble ourselves and “walk in the Spirit”?  Because, we get so easily tempted walk astray.  So the Holy Spirit wants to control our lives so we can have the best of life.  He will take us through every day victoriously  Our verse says that if we walk in the Spirit, we shall not fulfill the desires of the flesh.  I John 2:16, 17 say “For everything that belongs to the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride in one’s lifestyle – is not from the Father, but is from the world.  And the world with its lust is passing away, but the one who does God’s will remains forever.”  (Holman Christian Standard Bible).  When we walk in the Spirit, these lusts will not occupy us even though they will try.  We need to die daily and walk in the Spirit.  Someone has said “before your feet hit the floor in the morning, commit yourself to God and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you through the day.”  Walk in the Spirit and when the unexpected things appear, and they will, we can walk right through them victoriously.
