Galations 6:16 “And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.”  What rule?  The preceding verses talk about Paul not wanting to glory in his own merits or accomplishments.  He says, “God forbid” that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Well, if this is the rule that we should use all the time, there will be no place to become proud or boastful.  The only boasting we can do on this walk is what Jesus has accomplished on the cross and what He has done in our lives.  But shouldn’t we let everyone know what we have done for God and His kingdom?  Can we boast as to how we have committed our lives to serve Him?  What we have given up to do His bidding?  Paul says, “God forbid”.  We are not to walk in self-gratification or glory.  Paul had a lot to boast about but he says “God forbid”.  

There was a reporter who wanted to get an interview with the president of a Christian college, Upon entering the campus, he was not sure where to find him but he spied a man painting a building.  When he asked him where he could find the president, the painter replied, “Well, I happen to know that at lunch time you will find him in that building over there.”  As lunch time approached, the reported walked over to the designated building and knocked on the door.  The door opened and there stood a man dressed in a suit looking very distinguished.  The reporter recognized him as the painter. 

God forbid that we should glory in anything but the cross of Christ by which we have been saved.
