The Mask

Do you have a mask that you wear to hide your true feelings from others or even from yourself?  It’s possible to wear a mask for so long that you can’t remember what you looked like without it.  You can take the mask off!  God loves you, warts and all.  That is the simple, irrational truth.  A few years back, I had this truth revealed to me dramatically and felt led to write the following poem.  I hope it speaks to your heart.

Only Jesus sees the real me,

The “me” that no one else can see.

He looks beyond the mask I put on.

For He alone sees the real me.

Jesus knows the way that I feel.

He can see the “me” that is real.

He looks inside where I can’t hide.

For He alone sees the real me.

Jesus knows my thoughts and my heart.

He searches out my innermost parts.

He knows my fears and He draws me near,

For He alone sees the real me.

Jesus, when you search my soul, I pray

You’ll find me faithful to walk in your way.

Forgive secret sins that I hide within,

For you alone see the real me.

“….The Lord does not look at the things man looks at.  Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”  1 Samuel 16:7
