“Jesus said to him, you shall love the Lord your God with

all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”

I am learning that any love that we conjure up in our fallen nature “self” is definitely synthetic. It isn’t until God places His love by His Son Jesus into our hearts that we experience true love. Then, He gives us the capacity to love as the above Scripture requires of us. Self can do nothing through its weakness; it is only by the power of the Holy Spirit that lives within us that enables us to love with all our heart, soul, and mind.

As our mind begins to experience this love reality that has entered our heart, we begin to love our neighbors. We love them no matter the color, creed, size, or whatever that differs from whom we are. Perfecting others is a perpetual sin that distorts our vision.

Love is defined very simply: “a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person.” The word love is misunderstood and abused often. But when we see it from God’s perspective, it is profoundly majestic and we are unable to comprehend such love. However, God has chosen to put His love in our hearts so we may accomplish His will and purpose in this world around us. The yielded and willing heart that has His love abiding within it by His Holy Spirit, will win the lost by His love alone. It is never by us as “the branch” that it occurs but it is produced by the True Vine, Jesus Himself!

It says in 1 Peter 4:8 “And above all things have fervent love for one another, for love will cover a multitude of sins.” Oh, that we might be careful to think before we speak, for many are turned away because of unloving words that are spoken with good intent but received without love. We as humans are drawn by love as shown by the example we portray in our words and actions. Our fervent prayer should be that others see only Jesus and not us.

 

“And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with

all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as

oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
