Satan’s Co-Partner

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

James 4:7

Well, who do you think it is?  None other than the culprit himself “Self” who aids Satan in ways we can’t begin to imagine.  May I share this with you? I was in meditation recently, enjoying the goodness of God’s presence and who pops up its head and demands attention and recognition?  Yes, it was self, immediately the Holy Spirit, in that still small voice said, you have a problem!  Instantly in my mind was an image, an ugly image of myself!  I saw pride, self-centeredness, need for recognition, etc. The above Scripture came into mind, humility fell upon my heart and I cried for forgiveness!  My focus returned to praises but I understood that in order to have victory I must surrender “self” to the power of the Holy Spirit.

We can see it takes only a moment for self to slip in unnoticed and rob us of our joy in the Lord. At that time especially, I realized the importance to pray without ceasing for Satan is ever present.  1 Peter 5:8 describes his ploy:  “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

It is imperative that we have time to read and meditate on God’s Word for without it we are not prepared to recognize the attacks of Satan and the indulgence of self opens the door to many temptations!

“Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.”

1 Peter 5:9
