Royal Priesthood

Hebrews 3:1  Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession;

1 Peter 2:9  But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

1 Corinthians 6:19  Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?

Acts 1:8  but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”

John 15:7  “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

Wow! Jesus is the apostle and high priest. An apostle is a “sent one” who has the rights, power, and authority of the one who sends him. Jesus was sent to earth by the Father. He is higher than any other bible hero. And what about me? According to the Word of God, I am of the royal priesthood, part of a chosen race, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession. It sounds too fantastic to believe, but God’s Word says it is true. My finite mind has a hard time grasping this truth. Why did Jesus make me one of His royal priests? so that I may proclaim the excellences of Him who has called me out of darkness into His marvelous light. He wants me to help spread His light around. How can little ole me accomplish this task for Him? He made me a temple of His, installed His Spirit in me, and made me His, another one of those hard to grasp things. As he did with His apostles, He gave me the power of the Holy Spirit and sent me out into the world to be His witness. I can do whatever he wants me to, if I don’t hinder or grieve His Spirit, and allow Him to work through me according to His will. Another help from the Lord is prayer. Jesus said I could ask Him for anything and it would be done, but it depends on me abiding in Him and His Word abiding in me. What a blessing to be a priest under the direction of my High Priest, Jesus, but it is an awesome responsibility with eternal results. Am I up to the task? Am I doing my job? And if not why? Jesus gives me all the tools needed to do the job and knows I will never be 100 per cent effective for Him, but am I reaching the potential he knows I can, if I abide in Him and His Word abides in me. These are tough questions to ask of myself.

 Lord, I am so weak and ineffective on my own, but Your Word tells me I can do anything through You. (Philippians 4:13). Lord, help me discern what I need to do to produce more fruit for you, and help me do it.
