“Those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint†(Isaiah 40:31).Â
We learned yesterday, the Hebrew word wait (Psalm 27:14), used here in Isaiah also, depicts a rope. It begins as a thread, and each strand added increases its strength. So if you feel as though you are just hanging on by a thread today, you can add another thread to your rope by waiting on the Lord. “Those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength†(Isaiah 40:31). Our thread turns into a rope as we spend more time in the presence of God and His Word.
He gives us His “perfect peace†when our minds are focused on Him (Isaiah 26:3). As we sit prayerfully and expectantly in His presence—waiting on Him, our strength will be renewed.
(1)   We gain new strength. As we wait on Him, amazingly, the weakness we feel will be exchanged for His strength.  Â
(2)   We gain a better perspective on our situation. We will soar “like eagles.â€Â On a clear day, they can spot a fish in water several miles away. Our spiritual vision clears.
 (3)   We store up extra energy. Our renewed strength energizes us. “We shall run (future tense) and not be weary.â€Â We will have extra strength and energy to handle each situation.
(4)   We deepen our determination to persevere. With renewed energy comes the will to endure, to   persevere. We’re trusting the Lord’s strength to get us to the finish line. Waiting strengthens our rope to hang in there!
 “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He will strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD†(Psalm 27:14 NKJV).
“My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him“
(Psalm 62:5 NKJV).
“As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters . . . so our eyes look to the LORD our God†(Psalm 123:2 NKJV).
We’ll gain new strength, a better perspective, store up extra energy, and deepen our determination to persevere—when we wait on Him (Isaiah 40:31).
God may not tell us how or when He will help us through our trials and answer our prayers; but we can be assured of His promise: those who wait on Him will have renewed strength. If we resist anxiety and wait expectantly on Him, His joy and supernatural strength will bring comfort and restore hope.Â
