Pleasing God

“Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God,

that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. But do not forget

to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.”

Hebrews 13:15-17

Pleasing God is on the top of my priority list, how about you?  I heard a sermon one day that included this comment, “we can’t please God!” I don’t believe this is a true statement as the above Scripture makes it clear. I believe that Jesus rejoices when He sees His children earnestly striving toward obedience. If I thought for one moment that I could never bring joy to the heart of God, there would be no reason for obedience. The greatest will of Jesus was to please His Father, and that should be our will as well.

Obedience was the motivation that took Jesus to the Cross. He died a cruel death for our sin because that was the will of His Father. That was love beyond our greatest imagination!  It took death on the Cross to be obedient to the Father to bring us into a reconciliation with God; this was His purpose for coming in human form to this earth. Can we actually comprehend this? We cannot understand a LOVE so great!

Coming into the full knowledge of the Cross and the sacrifice Jesus gave for us should give us desire and determination through the power and strength of the Holy Spirit within us to be obedient in sacrificial love to all that Jesus commands. Herein lies the possibility, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

“That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him,

being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.”

Colossians 1:10
