“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6
I am amazed at how many people are ashamed to pray publicly. We should view it as an honor and not a duty. I have seen the most verbal opinionated people in the world clam up and get shy as soon as someone asks them to pray. I think many of us see prayer as a type of martial art that you have to master before you can pray in front of others. We all have heard the sermons of how to pray. There is step 1-4 on how to pray. We may even come up with acronyms or cute little sayings like P.U.S.H. (Pray until something happens). I believe the Lord has given us much more freedom than a 4 step prayer program. I believe there are prayers of praise, conversation, thankfulness, and supplication. What should be at the heart of every prayer is submission and an understanding that we are his servants and we will carry out His will.
The way I teach people to pray is simple. Approach the Lord as you would the President or a movie star. The one you have always wanted to meet. You have their attention and they want to hear what you have to say. You have so much respect for the person that you come humbly before them in awe of who they are. We should approach the Lord in the same manner. We should fell honored to approach the King of Kings.
We are approaching our Lord and Savior. The one who was thinking of us when He hung on the cross so many years ago. The only one worthy to open the scrolls in the book of Revelation. The one that angels bow down to. We are able to approach the one and only Jesus Christ to whom the whole world will bow the knee and call Him Lord.
