LOVE in Action

I am writing today about love…….Not just casual love but the quality of love that God gives to us.  The love we are looking at is agape love. Agape love is selfless…….. sacrificial………unconditional…….the highest form of love. Jesus showed us this sacrificial love when He died for our sins. Agape love is given to us by God and we, as believers, need to   share this love that comes to us from Him with others we come in contact with.

Romans 12:9-13

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope ……..patient in affliction and ………faithful in prayer.

Love is hospitality. Matthew 25:40. “Whatever you do for the least of my brethren you also do for me”. We need to share with people in need. We need to be supportive physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Love is to be given regardless of circumstances. It may be easy to love people who are believers and those who are lovely, but we are commissioned to love unlovely people and non-believers as well. The cornerstone of love is sincerity. It cannot be counterfeit. What you are showing on the outside you must also be feeling inside. It must be sincere and honest.

Each believer needs to seek the will of God and to learn what spiritual gifts God will give us. Then we are expected to use that gift to serve him.

God does give EACH of us a gift; It may not be singing or playing the piano or to become a world leader. Most of us will never be famous but that makes our gifts even more valuable. We give our best whatever that may be.

Mark 12:44 (Jesus speaking to the apostles at the temple seeing the Pharisees giving much into the collection plate and comparing what the widow gave) “They all gave out of their wealth, but she has given all she had to live on.”

Your gift may be to serve others or to make lovely things with your hands. Many of you have the gift of cooking as we see when we have dinners at church!

Love is praying for others who are facing difficult times. Love is generously using the gift God has given you. These gifts are given to us by the Holy Spirit with the expectation that we will put our gift into action.  God’s word teaches us the meaning of love in whatever we do.

1 Corinthians 13:4

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does NOT boast nor is it proud. It is NOT

rude or self-seeking. It is NOT easily angered and keeps no grudges”

Love is  an action word meant to be used for His glory.

Listen to the actions words in Psalm 9:12

“I will praise you, Oh Lord, with all my heart. I will tell of your wonders, I will be glad and rejoice in you, I will sing praises to your name.”

Our God gives us so much mercy, so much grace and so much love, we need to put that love into action.

The bible has so many verses about love.

Matthew 22:37-39

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment and the second is love your neighbor as yourself.”

1 Corinthians Chapter 15:51

“Listen and I will tell you a mystery…We will not all sleep but we will be changed in a flash in a twinkling of an eye at the last trumpet”

And we will spend eternity in the presence of Jesus.

                       THIS IS OUR BLESSED HOPE.

1 John 4:18

“There is no fear in love for love casts out fear…” and God’s love for us is perfect love.”
