Led by Faith

“The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”

John 14:17

We have been discussing the Life of the Holy Spirit that lives within us. But how are we led by the Spirit? The very root of this question is “Faith.”  Knowledge comes first from Scripture that is the only divine source, and understanding is given by the guidance of the Holy Spirit within.  It is by our faith that takes us there!  However, as I am growing I find that reading what very mature Christians have experienced in their walk with God is a great help to me in understanding many precepts written in God’s Word.  I found the following excerpt from, “The Spirit of Christ,” very interesting and would like to share it with you:

The leading of the Spirit must especially be a thing of faith in two ways. The beginning of the leading will come when we learn to cultivate and act upon the statement: The Holy Spirit is in me, and is doing His work. The Spirit’s indwelling is the crowning piece of God’s work of redemption. Here, if anywhere, faith is needed.  Faith is the faculty of the soul which recognizes the unseen, the divine. It receives the impression of the divine presence when God draws near. It accepts what the Holy Spirit brings and gives to us. Here faith may not judge by what it feels or understands, but simply submits to God to let Him do what He has said. Faith prays and trusts.

To me, this is what it means to be led by faith and the acknowledgement of the presence of the Holy Spirit.  We see in the following the teaching assurance of our faith.

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Hebrews 11:1
