Hosea

Even as you look at the darkness of Hosea’s day, there is still a glimmer of hope. The people of Judah were spared total destruction and repented returning to the one true God. God accepted them and they followed him rebuilding the temple and once again were the children of God,

But as always fallen man got in the way and created their own laws of worship and observing the Sabbath. God finally sent the perfect sacrifice to save the world; God’s son came to earth as that sacrifice.

Jesus was the perfect sacrifice for all men he was sinless and went to the cross to die for our sins. To rise on the third day so he could sit at the right hand of the father to utter the words all true will hear “well done my fine and noble servant then we will be able to spend all eternity in the presence of God.

Dear Lord: Allow me to conduct myself in such a way that people can see you in me. That I may be a living example of your gift of salvation. I know I will be in this fallen body for a while longer but I also know the gift you have given me for all of eternity. As long as I am here let me share the gospel and see the miracle of salvation.

In Jesus name I pray amen.

Hosea

There is no scripture with today’s devotion. The reason for this is as you read the rest of the book of Hosea; you find more of the same. A darkness and destruction of the northern kingdom. They refused to repent and reaped what they had sowed.

The world today is in the same boat. An unresponsive world unwilling to respond to the word of God placing idols ahead of everything, trying to create a utopia in this fallen world. What can be done to stop this lock step march away from God?

Dear Lord: Give me the opportunity to make a difference. An opportunity to share the gospel to be able to make a difference in lives of those that know you.

In Jesus name I pray amen.

Hosea

Hosea 6:7-11 (KJV)
7 But they like men have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.
8 Gilead is a city of them that work iniquity, and is polluted with blood.
9 And as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the company of priests murder in the way by consent: for they commit lewdness.
10 I have seen an horrible thing in the house of Israel: there is the whoredom of Ephraim, Israel is defiled.
11 Also, O Judah, he hath set an harvest for thee, when I returned the captivity of my people.

Man had transgressed the covenant with God from the very beginning. Adam had committed the original sin. The people of Israel had done the same thing as a country they had broken the covenant with god.

Gilead was the central city in the northern kingdom the priest would form bands and murder anyone who was going to Jerusalem to worship the one true God. Israel was totally defiled and refused to worship the one True God.

Judah would be carried away but they would be returned to the land.

Today true believers are still being persecuted by the idolatress people who follow the idol of political correctness. We may not yet be physically killed but we will have to go underground to survive.

Dear Lord: I ask that you protect your church that you give us the opportunity to survive and be able to share the gospel. To be able to once again see the miracle of salvation.

In Jesus name we pray amen.

Hosea

Hosea 6:4-11 (KJV)
4 O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away.
5 Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.
6 For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
The people of God would draw close to the one true God when times were rough and repent for their sins. But as the dew will evaporate and the early clouds will go away the people of God would once again wonder and worship false gods. The prophets including Hosea warned the people of the impending doom by these actions. God wanted more than ritual. God wanted the people to show mercy towards him and to have knowledge of God.

The people in Hosea’s day were fickle they would walk away from God during the good times and run to him in times of disaster. Everyone reading this should remember September 11th. The following Sunday the churches were filled some had standing room only. But like the people of God Hosea writes about in a short time the churches were almost empty. People had gone through the ritual of praying for our country. Not truly loving or having knowledge of God. The only thing that will change our country is true repentance of individuals and an abiding faith in Jesus Christ.

Dear Lord: I pray that each individual in this country has an opportunity to here the gospel. The opportunity to have their hardened heart softened so they can accept you as their Lord and Savior. The country as we know it may be lost but Lord give us the opportunity to continue to harvest souls in your name.

In Jesus name I pray amen.

Hosea

Hosea 6:1-3 (KJV)
1 Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.
2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
3 Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

The people of Judah realized that their allegiance to other countries would not save them and they needed to return to the one true god. The promise here is that even though the punishment of the lord torn and bruised the people, they would be restored by the same God.

The second verse is of great interest because of the Short time frame in which the people would be healed. More important is the reference to the raising up on the third day. Most commentators see this as a reference to the resurrection of Jesus.

The reference to the rain is made to show that as sure as the fall and spring  rains would come God would provide for his people as they repented for their sins.

Today god will continue to provide for the true believers who repent of their sins and believe in his son, Jesus Christ. For as sure as the rains will fall he will care for his son’s bride the church.

Dear Lord: As it is written in James let us confess are sins one to another. Allow us the time to repent of sins and be given the opportunity to share the Gospel. To be able to go forth and be a reflection of your son in a lost and dying world.

In Jesus name I pray amen.

Hosea

Hosea 5:8-15 (KJV)
8 Blow ye the cornet in Gibeah, and the trumpet in Ramah: cry aloud at Bethaven, after thee, O Benjamin.
9 Ephraim shall be desolate in the day of rebuke: among the tribes of Israel have I made known that which shall surely be.
10 The princes of Judah were like them that remove the bound: therefore I will pour out my wrath upon them like water.
11 Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, because he willingly walked after the commandment.
12 Therefore will I be unto Ephraim as a moth, and to the house of Judah as rottenness.
13 When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound, then went Ephraim to the Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb: yet could he not heal you, nor cure you of your wound.
14 For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him.
15 I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early.

The ten northern tribes were to be totally obliterated by the Assyrians. The tribe of Judah would try to form an alliance with the Assyrians that would protect them from invasion. By paying tribute to the Assyrians they only delayed the inevitable. The entire Jewish race would be destroyed and carried off by one country or another. The lord would withdraw his hand and until in their affliction the people repented God would not protect them.

The United States is being obliterated by political correctness. Even the modern day church is moving away from Jesus’ gospel to a softer more tolerant form that allows each person to view Jesus as they please. Christians in name only are changing the gospel so it fits their life instead of changing their life to fit the gospel. As God finally removed his hand from the tribe of Judah he will remove his hand from this country. When we finally repent as a people God may pull us out of our misery and affliction but until then we will not be protected by God as the tribe of Judah was left to their own demise.

Dear Lord: I know as a people my country has run away from you. I know there is little time left for them to repent if they will. Lord my prayer is that as a church and individuals we are able to reach more people for you. Not caving into society but standing firm on the gospel and our belief in you.

In Jesus name I pray amen.

Hosea

Hosea 5:1-7 (KJV)
1 Hear ye this, O priests; and hearken, ye house of Israel; and give ye ear, O house of the king; for judgment is toward you, because ye have been a snare on Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor.
2 And the revolters are profound to make slaughter, though I have been a rebuker of them all.
3 I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me: for now, O Ephraim, thou committest whoredom, and Israel is defiled.
4 They will not frame their doings to turn unto their God: for the spirit of whoredoms is in the midst of them, and they have not known the LORD.
5 And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: therefore shall Israel and Ephraim fall in their iniquity; Judah also shall fall with them.
6 They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the LORD; but they shall not find him; he hath withdrawn himself from them.
7 They have dealt treacherously against the LORD: for they have begotten strange children: now shall a month devour them with their portions.

The eye of the lord is all seeing. The lord could see what the house of Israel was doing and knew the house of Judah would follow them. The house of Judah still sought after their lord but not with their hearts and soul but with their flocks and herds. They paid lip service with their tithes but they did not truly worship God. So in the end the Babylonians would carry off the people of Judah the same as the Assyrians carried off the Israelites.

The so called Christian church today and the cults that claim to follow Jesus will also be destroyed as were the people of God in Hosea’s day. Unfortunately the true church, the true bride of Christ, will also suffer for some will only pay lip service and not truly worship the one true God. For it is written “The rain will fall on the just and the unjust.” So be prepared for trials and tribulation.

Dear Lord: I know I will not be spared from the refiner’s fire. I know each of that I must go through the trials and tribulation to become a stronger person. Lord it is only through you I can find the wisdom, courage, and strength to complete the task you have placed before me. Please give me these things so I can finish the race and one hear you say “well done my fine and noble servant.”

In Jesus Name I pray amen.

Hosea

Hosea 4:12-19 (KJV)
12 My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.
13 They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery.
14 I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor your spouses when they commit adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that doth not understand shall fall.
15 Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Bethaven, nor swear, The LORD liveth.
16 For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer: now the LORD will feed them as a lamb in a large place.
17 Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.
18 Their drink is sour: they have committed whoredom continually: her rulers with shame do love, Give ye.
19 The wind hath bound her up in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.

The people began to cast lots or to throw staffs to foretell the future. They still ran after false gods in the northern kingdom. God did not punish the daughters and wives who participated. God punished the husbands and the fathers. The northern kingdom was lost but Judah was admonished not to follow the same path. They were not to go to the main places of idol worship and to keep themselves separate and pure.

In today’s evangelical church we are to be true to our faith. To present a pure and uncompromised gospel, we must be careful who as a church we associate with. Everything that we do as a church as well individually will be scrutinized by the world. The church must stand firm and be a shining beacon in the darkness. The only thing that will save a lost and dying world is a belief in Jesus and him crucified.

Dear Lord: Allow me to be a good and faithful member of the local church so I can corporately worship you as part of the bride of Jesus. To help support the preaching of the gospel pure and unchanged by man. Allow me to represent you in a good and pleasing manner so people can see you in me.

In Jesus name I pray amen.

Hosea

Hosea 4:6-11 (KJV)
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
7 As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.
8 They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity.
9 And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings.
10 For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD.
11 Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.

Not only were the people rejected by God the priest who were supposed to serve the one true God were also rejected. The priests were living off the sin offerings that were supposed to be given to God. The priest had wondered off the narrow path and the sheep (the people of Israel) followed them and sinned against the one true God.

False teachers and pastors today are doing the same things. They are wandering away from the narrow path. Using the word of God to increase their own wealth and prosperity. While others begin on the narrow path but as their ministry and churches grow they must become more politically correct to pay the bills. These good men walk away from a pure gospel to tickle the ears of those who will listen.

By just tickling the ears man cannot be saved. The thing that will save man is a pure gospel the knowledge of Jesus Christ and him crucified.

Dear Lord: Allow me to be able to present a pure gospel, an opportunity to continue to share the only way to your presence is through your son Jesus. Give me the opportunity to share the gospel so I once again can see the miracle of salvation.

In Jesus name I pray amen.

Hosea

Hosea 4:1-5 (KJV)
1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.
3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
4 Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.
5 Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.

These verses are written about the children of Israel. Yet as they are read you can substitute America for Israel and it should send a chill up your spine. The immorality and sins of both these countries are an exact parallel. The very land will mourn and the beast, fowl, and the fish will be removed. Man will be able to do nothing it will be past time for repentance and all will fall. The land will be destroyed for the sins committed.

These are harsh and unforgiving words. The people have brought this upon themselves. But as believers we still need to endure knowing that in the end we will be caught up in the air with Jesus. Go to heaven and remain in the presence of God for all eternity. We may hot escape the judgment but we will reap the award.

Dear Lord: I can no longer pray for the country but I can pray for the individuals. Even in these last days I still need the courage and wisdom to pray for the lost. I know some can still be saved and allow me to be used to proclaim the gospel, as you bring some to be saved.

In Jesus name I pray amen.
