The Greatest Calling

The Apostle Paul referenced this calling when he wrote, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 3:14. The greatest call anyone can receive is the high and holy call from God to come to Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Paul had responded to the Greatest Calling and was earnestly striving to live for Christ.  Like Paul, every Christian should urgently press forward in living out God’s high calling in Christ Jesus.  I think we all miss the “mark” at times but many Christians seem to have lost sight of it.  If we are not careful the world wedges itself between us and God’s mark, Jesus Christ.

Here is the most thrilling thought about the Greatest Calling – God’s calling.  His calling is a personal calling.  It is directed specifically to the individual.  When God called you He wasn’t calling anyone else.  He was seeking you alone.  If we will just STOP and ponder that truth we will be overcome with thankfulness.  Perhaps you might do that right now.

Our thankfulness is engendered from the realization that no one comes to God through Christ on their own – without God’s calling.  Why?  Lost people are not disposed to seeking God.  The Bible says, “…there is none that seeketh after God.”  Romans 3:11. Lost people turn to God only when prompted by the Greatest Calling – God’s calling to come to Christ for salvation.

Doubtless you recall your lost condition?  Probably you remember at what point your thoughts turned to God because you had a need for God.  You were experiencing the Greatest Call – God’s call to salvation.  All Christians can vividly and emotionally relive the time they answered God’s call and gave their life to Jesus Christ.

Thank God for His Great Calling.  You and I responded favorably but we know others who need to hear the Greatest Call – God’s call to salvation through Christ.    May our prayers for them be heard and promptly rewarded by the God of the Greatest Calling.Â
