FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS

Esther 4: 13-14: “And Mordecai told them to answer Esther: “Do not think in your heart that you will escape in the king’s palace any more than all the other Jews. ‘For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish.  Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”  NKJV

Esther was in an alien situation.  She was separated from her family and her countrymen.  She felt she could not even approach her husband, the king, for fear of losing her life.  Yet, God had placed her in that environment so that He could use her to save the Jews.

As Christians in modern day America, we are strangers in this land.  We are now considered to be in a minority. Every day, we lose more of our freedom to witness and proclaim our beliefs.  I definitely feel as though this is not my home anymore.  I long for my Heavenly home.

Yet, who knows if we are not in this place, at this time in history for such a time as this?  I have often thought about what this nation would be like if there were no believers in Jesus in it.  When I watch the TV news or read the newspaper, I am appalled at the evil in our country and around the world.  It would be so much worse if there were no Christians to be a light in the awful darkness.

Jesus tells us that we are the light of the world.  (Matthew 5:14).  And, in verse 16 of Matthew 5, he commands us to “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven.”

Esther fulfilled her purpose as she stood up for her people and they were saved.  How about you? If you are a believer in Jesus, you need to let your light shine in a world that desperately needs it.

I believe that Christians in today’s world are here for “such a time as this”.  If we witness to only one person, we have shone light to one soul who needs to know who Jesus is.  Light always conquers darkness.  Please let your light shine in your corner of this land.
