Changing of the Heart

Matthew 12:34

“ Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

This is deep water, are we ready to go there? Yes, let’s tread the shallow waters of our understanding!  Can we change what is in our hearts, no, we can bring about an appearance of change, but only the Holy Spirit can cleanse the evil that rest there.  Have you looked deep within your heart lately, I have? Do you see lust, envy, deceit, selfishness, pride or criticism? Ugly, aren’t they? These things are not pleasing to Jesus and we must acknowledge them so the Holy Spirit can cleanse them from our hearts.

How does He do this?  There are many ways and the Holy Spirit knows exactly what each one of us need to remove any sin that contaminates our hearts and reduces our witness for the glory of God. Is it painful, oh my, is it ever and many times it isn’t short lived.  We have heard what happens to iron in the melting pot when it needs to be molded or purified.  We too, have to go through this process to remove the dross from our lives, and who does this? This is the work of the Holy Spirit.  Can we begin to comprehend the work that is to be accomplished from our born again experience until He brings it to completion?

“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

Philippians 1:6

This is our assurance, that one day when Jesus returns for us we shall be complete. The heart will be cleansed and changed and we will be all that God intended for us to be!  Is that a miracle or what? Remember, in Him all things are possible, even our very sinful nature, Hallelujah!!
