 Philippians 1:9-10 “And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ.â€
This is Paul’s prayer for the Philippian believers that they would be sincere and not offensive to others. To be sincere is to be real without hypocrisy, without wax. When under heat wax melts revealing it was not real, not stable. Perhaps this is best explained with this illustration from Our Daily bread:
“At the 2009 Kansas high school state track championship, an unusual thing happened. The team that won the girls 3,200-meter relay was disqualified. But what happened next was even more unusual. The team that was awarded the state championship by default turned right around and gave their medals to the team that had been disqualified. The first school lost first place because judges ruled that a runner had stepped out of her lane as she handed off the baton. “
Why did they do that? Their coach explained that their theme for the year was to ‘run not for our glory, but for God’s glory’. As a result of what they did, the story spread throughout Kansas and God’s name was lifted up. What a way to witness for God.  Sincere in their faith resulted in kindness to the other team and brought glory to God. Live our faith, be sincere, not hypocritical, so that God can be glorified in our relationships with others.
Give us the spiritual vitamin of sincerity so our love will abound to others and we can glorify our Lord Jesus. If we are sincere believers, our witness will ring true to bring others to know Him.
