“And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.  Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.†I John 5:20-21
The following questions came from a friend to test and see if you are guilty of idolatry. I am not sure where he got it from but it is a good test. Â
1)What do I worry about most?
2)What if I failed or lost it, would cause me to feel that I did not even want to live?
3)What do I use to comfort myself when things get bad or difficult?
4)What do I do to cope? What are my release valves? What do I do to feel better?
5)What preoccupies me? What do I daydream about?
6)What makes me feel the most self-worth? Of what I am proudest? For what do I want to be known?
7)What do I lead with in conversations?
8)What do I really want and expect out of life? What would really make me happy?
9)What is my hope for the future?
Any answer other than God, striving to know Him better, or something mentioning the Gospel, means there may be an area in your life that you are struggling with idolatry. Pray to ask the Lord if there are areas that you are not trusting him.
