God is love. He loves us so much that He wants to give us a new heart. God is also a Holy, Righteous, jealous God. In Exodus 20:2-3 we read: “I am the Lord you God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Meâ€.
We think that this Scripture doesn’t apply to us because it was addressed to the Israelites. We don’t make idols to worship. Or do we? In Matthew 22:37, Jesus told us that we should love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. In other words, He should have first place in our heart and in our life.
Too often, we put other people and other things ahead of God. We spend our time trying to get ahead in life. We awake and start our day by planning our schedule. Far better would be to start our day by worshipping and fellowshipping with our Savior, Jesus. He already has our schedule planned for us. He has told us: “For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.†Jeremiah 29:11.
Many years ago, I saw a drawing of a heart with a throne inside. One picture showed God on the throne, while the other depicted a throne representing self with God off to the side. God wants to be on the throne of your heart. In Deuteronomy, God tells us that He is a jealous god. He created us; He redeemed us and He wants to be King of our hearts.
Who rules your heart?
