2 Samuel 5-6:11
King James Version (KJV)
5Â Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.
2Â Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the Lord said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel.
3Â So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the Lord: and they anointed David king over Israel.
4Â David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.
5Â In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.
6Â And the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: which spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking, David cannot come in hither.
7Â Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David.
8Â And David said on that day, Whosoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind that are hated of David’s soul, he shall be chief and captain. Wherefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.
9Â So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.
10Â And David went on, and grew great, and the Lord God of hosts was with him.
11Â And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons: and they built David an house.
12Â And David perceived that the Lord had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel’s sake.
13Â And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron: and there were yet sons and daughters born to David.
14Â And these be the names of those that were born unto him in Jerusalem; Shammuah, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,
15Â Ibhar also, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
16Â And Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet.
17Â But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the hold.
18Â The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
19Â And David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand.
20Â And David came to Baalperazim, and David smote them there, and said, The Lord hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baalperazim.
21Â And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them.
22Â And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
23Â And when David enquired of the Lord, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
24Â And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the Lord go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.
25Â And David did so, as the Lord had commanded him; and smote the Philistines from Geba until thou come to Gazer.
6Â Again, David gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.
2Â And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the Lord of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims.
3Â And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new cart.
4Â And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah, accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark.
5Â And David and all the house of Israel played before the Lord on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.
6Â And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.
7Â And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.
8Â And David was displeased, because the Lord had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the place Perezuzzah to this day.
9Â And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and said, How shall the ark of the Lord come to me?
10Â So David would not remove the ark of the Lord unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite.
11Â And the ark of the Lord continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the Lord blessed Obededom, and all his household.
1 Chronicles 11:1-9
11Â Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.
2Â And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the Lord thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel.
3Â Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the Lord; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by Samuel.
4Â And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus; where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.
5Â And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come hither. Nevertheless David took the castle of Zion, which is the city of David.
6Â And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.
7Â And David dwelt in the castle; therefore they called it the city of David.
8Â And he built the city round about, even from Millo round about: and Joab repaired the rest of the city.
9Â So David waxed greater and greater: for the Lord of hosts was with him.
1 Chronicles 12:23-40
23Â And these are the numbers of the bands that were ready armed to the war, and came to David to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of the Lord.
24Â The children of Judah that bare shield and spear were six thousand and eight hundred, ready armed to the war.
25Â Of the children of Simeon, mighty men of valour for the war, seven thousand and one hundred.
26Â Of the children of Levi four thousand and six hundred.
27Â And Jehoiada was the leader of the Aaronites, and with him were three thousand and seven hundred;
28Â And Zadok, a young man mighty of valour, and of his father’s house twenty and two captains.
29Â And of the children of Benjamin, the kindred of Saul, three thousand: for hitherto the greatest part of them had kept the ward of the house of Saul.
30Â And of the children of Ephraim twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty men of valour, famous throughout the house of their fathers.
31Â And of the half tribe of Manasseh eighteen thousand, which were expressed by name, to come and make David king.
32Â And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.
33Â Of Zebulun, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, with all instruments of war, fifty thousand, which could keep rank: they were not of double heart.
34Â And of Naphtali a thousand captains, and with them with shield and spear thirty and seven thousand.
35Â And of the Danites expert in war twenty and eight thousand and six hundred.
36Â And of Asher, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, forty thousand.
37Â And on the other side of Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and of the half tribe of Manasseh, with all manner of instruments of war for the battle, an hundred and twenty thousand.
38Â All these men of war, that could keep rank, came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king.
39Â And there they were with David three days, eating and drinking: for their brethren had prepared for them.
40Â Moreover they that were nigh them, even unto Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought bread on asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, and meat, meal, cakes of figs, and bunches of raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep abundantly: for there was joy in Israel.
1 Chronicles 13-14
13Â And David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds, and with every leader.
2Â And David said unto all the congregation of Israel, If it seem good unto you, and that it be of the Lord our God, let us send abroad unto our brethren every where, that are left in all the land of Israel, and with them also to the priests and Levites which are in their cities and suburbs, that they may gather themselves unto us:
3Â And let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we enquired not at it in the days of Saul.
4Â And all the congregation said that they would do so: for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.
5Â So David gathered all Israel together, from Shihor of Egypt even unto the entering of Hemath, to bring the ark of God from Kirjathjearim.
6Â And David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah, that is, to Kirjathjearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up thence the ark of God the Lord, that dwelleth between the cherubims, whose name is called on it.
7Â And they carried the ark of God in a new cart out of the house of Abinadab: and Uzza and Ahio drave the cart.
8Â And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with singing, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.
9Â And when they came unto the threshingfloor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled.
10Â And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him, because he put his hand to the ark: and there he died before God.
11Â And David was displeased, because the Lord had made a breach upon Uzza: wherefore that place is called Perezuzza to this day.
12Â And David was afraid of God that day, saying, How shall I bring the ark of God home to me?
13Â So David brought not the ark home to himself to the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite.
14Â And the ark of God remained with the family of Obededom in his house three months. And the Lord blessed the house of Obededom, and all that he had.
14Â Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house.
2Â And David perceived that the Lord had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.
3Â And David took more wives at Jerusalem: and David begat more sons and daughters.
4Â Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,
5Â And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,
6Â And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
7Â And Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet.
8Â And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.
9Â And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
10Â And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.
11Â So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.
12Â And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.
13Â And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.
14Â Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
15Â And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.
16Â David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.
17Â And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.
