Text: Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ. (1 Thessalonians 2:6)
Text: For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. (1 Corinthians 15:9)
Text: This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. (1 Timothy 1:15)
Tweet: At the beginning of his apostolic ministry, Paul claimed to be an apostle ( 1 Thessalonians 2:6). About midway through, he confessed that he was not worthy to be called an apostle (1 Corinthians 15:9). At the end of his life, he wrote that he was the chief of all sinners (1 Timothy 1:15). Notice, as Paul grew in God’s grace and got closer to God his opinion of himself sunk and his view of God soared. God became holier and he became humbler. If you’re not becoming humbler and God is not becoming holier in your eyes, then, you’re not growing in God’s grace nor getting any closer to God.
