DECEMBER 15

In Matthew 4:4, Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Man was created to live His life by the Word of God. He was created to do what God says without hesitancy or question.

However, man tragically chose in the Garden of Eden to eat the forbidden fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. By doing so, man decided to live by his own wit rather than by God’s Word. He replaced divine revelation with human reason and substituted himself for God by making himself his own arbiter of what is right (good) and what is wrong (evil). Ever since then, man has suffered the inevitable corruption consequent with his decision to usurp God’s place in his life.

The Christian, who Paul teaches is a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), is to return to the Creator’s original intention for man. We, unlike the rest of this corrupt and fallen world, are to live by God’s Word, not by our wits. We’re not to do what we think, but what God’s Word teaches. It is by knowing, believing, and obeying the Bible that our lives should be lived. Only Biblical living is life as God created us to live it!
