Although expected at long last to recant, when called upon to do so by the gathered bishops, monks, and doctors, at the Blackfriars Synod in 1832, Wycliffe responded by saying: “With whom, think you, are you contending? with an old man on the brink of the grave? No! with Truth—Truth which is stronger than you, and will overcome you.” Wycliffe then walked out of the assembly, without any of his adversaries attempting to stop him.
