Beverly Ballard shares her favorite verse: “I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you.” John 14:18
One day after surgery for colon cancer, I was sitting up in a chair at the hospital having a painful pity party when someone entered my room. I looked up and saw a young man from the Rehab Department. He was pushing a walker and carrying a small strap. I knew immediately that meant a walk down the hall. I wasn’t sure I could get up alone and walk, but after a couple of tries, I succeeded. As I was shuffling down the hall we passed a beautiful picture of “Footprints in the Sand”. This picture made me think of one of my favorite verses in the Bible. John 14:18 “I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you.”
My walking partner looked at me and said “You’re standing up straighter and picking up your feet higher.” I felt a little spring in my feet. We finally finished that walk, but there were more before I went home.
I always remembered that verse and also the poem that was written. “I love you and I would not leave you during your trials and suffering. When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”
