Work for God

John 6:28-29   Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17   All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

NASB Translation

I prayed for my Lord to show me what my work for Him was, and like a lot of new followers, I thought it would be some great work. Well it is a great work, but not anything like I thought it would be. Jesus said the work of God was to believe in Him whom He sent. Really? That doesn’t sound like much of as job description. But as I thought about it, I realized, to believe in Him had to be the first step. I have to believe, and really want to work for Jesus before I can do anything worthwhile for Him. I had jobs in the past that I couldn’t get into, because I really didn’t believe in what they were doing, or how they were going about it. I worked for one company for 8 years and another for 20 years that I did believe in, and basically how they were going about things. I really enjoyed my job and most of the time going to work every day.

As good as I felt about my work with those two companies, they are so pale as to almost be invisible, in comparison to working for the Lord. Nothing else has ever given me the sense of accomplishment, joy, and peace that working for Him has. All great organizations have guidelines, understood and followed by all good employees. Jesus’ guidelines are the incomparable best of all, His Holy Word, the Bible. If I truly desire to do my best for Him, I need to understand it, and follow it to the best of my ability.

I pray Your Holy Spirit will help me stay on the narrow path for You.
