Jeremiah 37:9 “Thus says the LORD, ‘Do not deceive yourselves, saying, “The Chaldean s will surely go away from us,” for they will not go.
Zechariah 7:11 But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears from hearing.
Matthew 11:15 “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
1 Corinthians 3:18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise.
I am sure you have heard the old saying, I have met the enemy and he is me. For many years this was true for me, and still is on occasion. The Bible convinces me I can’t blame anyone else. There were many reasons for my developing into a hard headed, self-centered, do it my way, control freak. I could not clearly see myself for what I was. The Bible makes it plain the ultimate responsibility for my actions are mine alone. Like Israel, and for my own reasons I chose to follow the foolish broad way to destruction instead of the humble wise way with the Lord. Israel reminds me of our present political and bureaucratic leaders of today, claiming everything is in great shape, nothing is wrong they can’t fix, just trust them. There is a great quote in Pastor John MacArthur’s commentary that says a lot, “humanity lives its existence as though asleep or in a coma. People are insensitive to the brevity of life and the reality of God’s wrath.” Praise God I came to realize our secular leaders have a miserable track record, but my Lord has a perfect record. Jesus has helped me get to the point of trusting Him, and hearing what He has to say. I am now able to sit at His feet and hear His truth and wisdom. For many years now my desire has been to apply His word to my life as much as possible. With the secular attitude I once had, I worked for success as defined by my leaders, and peers, without achieving lasting success. With Jesus I have found the ultimate eternal success that will never go away. All I need to do is hang in there with Jesus, and keep growing in His knowledge and wisdom.
