Hebrews 3:1 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession;
1 Peter 2:9 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
1Peter 2:10 for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY.
The concept of a kingly priesthood as shown in upper case above, is drawn from Exodus 19:6.
Knowing who Jesus is, what he has done, including the creation of all things, what He is doing, and what He will do, I understand why He is our Royal Priest, but me as part of the royal priesthood, now that is another matter. Peter says so, so it must be true. Once I committed myself to Jesus I needed to understand that what he told me to do was not a suggestion, but a command. If I receive Him as my Lord, I need to accept His authority and do what he says. As I think about the fact of me being a Royal Priest, it has a tendency to frighten me. As I remember the responsibilities of a priest I wonder how I have done and will do as I work under the authority of Jesus, our High Priest. Jesus set the example and gave us our marching orders for action on His behalf; and it will not be easy. What trials and tribulations will I face? No one knows but Jesus. Jesus was obedient to the Father even to death. I may or may not be put in that position, but I pray I will follow His example if it comes to that. Jesus promises that those who follow Him will suffer trials and tribulation. If Jesus said it, it will come to pass.
Jesus, you are my friend and died for my sins. If needed, I pray I will be your friend and die for you also. I also pray I will fulfill the responsibilities given to me as part of your Royal Priesthood.
