WRITTEN IN RED

Today is the day that we celebrate Love!  There are so many ways to define love and there are different types of love.  Valentine’s Day is mainly for romantic love.  But, I want to think about Divine Love….Agape Love.

Deuteronomy 6:5: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength”.  That leaves no wriggle room.  In Matthew 22:37, Jesus uses the word mind for strength.  The meaning is clear.  We are to love God with our entire being.  No excuses, no alibis, no indecisiveness.  God wants us to love Him with no reservations.  And no changing our mind…no turning back.  God wants us and our love for eternity.  Not just on Sundays, not just when it is convenient, not when we have nothing better to do.  God demands our love every minute, every second, every hour that we have….from now to eternity.

I am thinking of the gospel song, Written in Red, by the Gaithers.  Here is Verse 1 and the chorus:

IN LETTERS OF CRIMSON, GOD WROTE HIS LOVE ON THE HILLSIDE SO LONG, LONG AGO; FOR YOU AND FOR ME JESUS DIED, AND LOVE’S GREATEST STORY WAS TOLD.

I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU THAT’S WHAT CALVARY SAID; I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, WRITTEN IN RED.

Jesus gave Himself for us.  In Romans 12:1, the Apostle Paul tells us what we are to do in response: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service”.

Let this holiday remind you that God loves you and He wrote it in Red!
