Yesterday, we read about the storm that the disciples experienced while Jesus slept in the boat. (Matt. 8:23-27). Today, we are going to consider the lessons that we learn from this Scripture.
First, storms come unexpectedly and can be fearsome, even when we are doing what God tells us to do. Even so, God is still with us in the worst storms of our lives. Jesus got into the boat and the disciples followed Him. Jesus never leaves or forsakes us. In the worst storms that we can experience, He is in the boat with us!
Lesson Two, when we call on Him, He responds. He may admonish us to have greater faith. In our fear, we may need to answer Jesus as did the man in Mark 9:24. In Verse 23, Jesus told him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believesâ€. The man replied, “Lord, I believe, help my unbeliefâ€.
Thirdly, when God answers my prayer, my call for help in the storm, I should praise Him that even in the storm, He is still in control. Where things are out of my control and I am scared; even then God is in control. I should be astonished at His solution, even if the answer is different than I expected.
Storms are sent to strengthen our faith. Even though we have seen God’s miracles in our lives, as had the disciples, our faith often wavers. God’s Word tells us that faith is a gift from God. Could we not then see the storm as a gift from God?
We need more understanding of the power of our Lord and Savior. We have seen His power in some circumstances but we don’t recognize the full extent of His awesome power. As we look back at our storms, we see that His power extends far beyond the limits that we thought existed.  His power knows no limits and no boundaries. We serve an awesome God!
CHORUS OF TILL THE STORM PASSES BY:
TILL THE STORM PASSES OVER, TILL THE THUNDER SOUNDS NO MORE,
TILL THE CLOUDS ROLL FOREVER FROM THE SKY,
HOLD ME FAST, LET ME STAND IN THE HOLLOW OF THY HAND,
KEEP ME SAFE TILL THE STORM PASSES BY.     Mosie Lister
