We Christians talk often of God’s promises. There are many that He has given for which we can praise Him. For example:
1 – “I will never leave you nor forsake you.â€Â (Hebrews 13:5)
2 – “I go to prepare a place for you.â€Â (John 14: 2-3)
3 – We have an Advocate before the Father for any sin. (I John 2:1)
4 – “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.â€Â I John 1:9
So many promises! My research found that there are as many as 8000 promises in the Bible. And we know that God is faithful to keep His promises. What He has said, He will do. (Hebrews 10:23)
How about us? How faithful are we? How are we doing with our promises to our Lord and Savior?
Our Lord holds us to a high standard when we make promises to Him. Many of you who read this have made commitments to the Lord. When you felt His call and accepted His salvation, you promised to follow Him. Are you still walking with Him? Perhaps, when in a particularly difficult situation, you promised to do something specific if He helped you out. Did you follow through?
God’s Word says in Psalm 76:11 to make vows to the Lord and keep them. In Ecclesiastes 5:4-5: “When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it, for He has no pleasure in fools, pay what you have vowed. Better not to vow than to vow and not payâ€. (See also Deuteronomy 23:21-22.)
Our Lord is a promise keeper; let us be a promise keeper. The Holy Spirit, our Helper, will come alongside to help us.
