A baby trusts in their parents. When they are born, they are completely helpless. They can’t walk, they can’t talk, they can’t feed themselves, they are completely dependent on their mother. When we become children of God, we are like a baby. We can do nothing without His help.
The Apostle Paul says: “And I, brethren, could not speak as to spiritual people but as carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able”. I Corinthians 3:1-2.
We grow in our spiritual life by feeding on the Word of God. We need to rely on His love and trust Him to teach us and discipline us and grow us in His Love. Psalm 13:5: “But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation”.
Our salvation begins with Christ’s love. It is completed by trusting the Holy Spirit to educate us, equip us and grow us into the person God wants us to be.
A baby is cute and cuddly and we love to cuddle them. We would be heartbroken, though, if they remained a baby forever. As parents we are responsible to feed them, teach them, and help them to become a mature person. God, our Father, wants us to trust Him to fashion us into the mature Christian that pleases Him.
I am grateful that God is still working on me. As I learn to trust His love, He is making me into all that I can be as a Christ follower. My heart and life are in His hands. When I try to do my own thing or go my own way, I get into trouble. Praise God for His unfailing love.
