Hosea

Hosea 2:1-5 (KJV)
1 Say ye unto your brethren, Ammi; and to your sisters, Ruhamah.
2 Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts;
3 Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst.
4 And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms.
5 For their mother hath played the harlot: she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.

The verses here are a great metaphor for what the people where doing. They had abandoned the one true God and had chased after other gods. They had begun to worship idols and to look to them to provide all their needs. All of the people would be effected by these decisions. Not only the ones participating in the worship of idols but also the ones standing quietly by and not doing anything.

Today’s church, on the most part, is sitting quietly on the sidelines not saying anything about what is happening today. The people are chasing after false idols placing political correctness and the love of money ahead of God. These are only two of the idols there are too many to list here. Unfortunately, there are too many pastors who no longer preach a pure gospel and some who embrace the sins of the world to keep the money flowing and their salaries intact.

Dear Lord: Give me the courage to speak out against idolaters, the strength and wisdom to proclaim a pure gospel of Jesus Christ. Continue to give me a daily opportunity to share your love with a lost and dying world.

In Jesus name I pray amen.
