Hosea 1:3-4 (KJV)
3 So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; which conceived, and bare him a son.
4 And the LORD said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.
5 And it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.
The marriage of Hosea to Gomer was a real transaction. Gomer appeared to be an idolatrous and a woman with no virtue. She did bear Hosea a son who God told Hosea to name him Jezreel. Jezreel name means more than the translation given in King James translation of the bible. The commentators I have read all seem to agree that Jezreel means to scatter or to disperse. This name was a foreshadowing of what would happen to the northern kingdoms as they were taken to Syria.
We need to look at the events of today to see the same type of things happening in our country. Not that a foreign country will come and rake us away but that the country will become more fractured and small groups will seek to control everyone’s life. As this happens more people will seek false gods or begin to worship idols. The church and the true people of God will become less influential and begin to be persecuted. We may not be carried away but our very lives will be in jeopardy to those who proclaim a true gospel message.
Dear Lord Jesus: Give me the courage and strength today to stand in the gap to be able to represent you in everything that I do. Let every individual who sees me during these times see know that I worship the one true God and am a child of ever faithful no matter the price to me personally.
In Jesus name I pray amen
