Let Go, Let God

When my grandson was about three years old, he was playing one day with a toy car.  This car was his favorite and he had played with it so much that the front wheels would sometimes come off.  Usually he could snap them back in place but this particular day he was having a problem getting the wheels to stay in place.

He brought the car to me to fix it for him.  He handed it to me and I was struggling with it trying to get the wheels back in place.  He reached over and took the car from my hands and he tried again to fix it.  When he couldn’t fix it, he handed it back to me.  I again tried to snap the wheels back in and, once again, he reached over and took the car away from me and began to struggle with the wheels.  This went on for a while until I finally told him, “If you keep taking the car back from me, I can’t fix it for you.  Give it to me and I’ll take care of it for you.”  After several failed attempts, he let me keep the car long enough to get the wheels back in place.

It occurred to me that I am a lot like my grandson.  Sometimes when I have something that I can’t fix in my life, I pray and give it over to God.  Then I take it back and try to fix it, tell Him how to fix it, worry and fret about it, etc.  Then I realize that I have not trusted God to take care of me, and I realize that He can’t fix things if I don’t let go of them.  Unfortunately, too many times I tend to repeat this behavior several times before I let go and trust God to care for me.  If you are completely honest with yourself, you probably have done the same thing in your life.

In 1st Peter 5:7 Jesus tells us to “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”

And in Psalms 55:22 we read, “Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous fall.”  Nahum 1:7 tells us that “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble.  He cares for those who trust in Him.”  I am reminded of the old hymn which says, “Be not dismayed whate’er betides; God will take care of you.”  Trust God.  He can handle it! He is an awesome God!!!
