“WALK IN THE WAYS OF DARKNESS”

Proverbs 2:13  “Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness.”  This verse is part of one long sentence talking about the evil man who speaks disobedient and willful things.  The beginning of this sentence starts in verse 10 telling us that wisdom and knowledge is pleasant to our soul bringing discretion and understanding that will deliver us from this evil man.  Walking in darkness is difficult and dangerous.  We fall down, stub our toe, run into things and have no idea of where we are and where we are going.  Getting up in the darkness in our own familiar home can be hazardous.  Solomon is saying that following an evil person or evil teaching will lead us into darkness, leaving the paths of uprightness.  This is willful.  Thinking we are able to find our own way.  What a warning.  This is what we do not want to do.  Sometimes we get led astray by others and become entangled in darkness.  Praise God, there is forgiveness and restoration that brings us back to the path of righteousness; where we can walk in obedience and fellowship with God.  It is amazing that God so loved us that He will always seek the lost sheep.  That one that went astray into darkness.  Quoting from Amy Carmichael again, “If I hold on to choices of any kind, just because they are my choice; if I give any room to my private likes and dislikes, then I know nothing of Calvary love.”   To walk in darkness reveals our lack of love for our Saviour and what He accomplished on Calvary for us.
