Jeremiah 13:10 “This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, who follow the dictates of their hearts, and walk after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be just like this sash which is profitable for nothing.â€Â What a strong condemning verse. God told Jeremiah to take a sash around his waist but do not put it in water. He did it. Then God told him to take the sash and hide it in a rock beside the Euphrates. He did it. Now go dig up the sash you hid in the rock. He did and the sash was ruined. God’s warning was that He would ruin the pride of Judah and the pride of Jerusalem just like the sash. Why? Because they would not heed God’s words but wanted to do their own thing. They wanted to walk in their own way after the dictates of their own hearts. God called them evil people. So easy to walk in our own ways, to go after the things that please us. Without a commitment to God to follow Him and His ways, we can find ourselves serving other gods. These are gods of pleasure, possessions and pride. We find ourselves trying to satisfy these desires that have become our gods. This is a warning not to walk in this way. Trusting God, obeying His Word and walking a life of faith will keep us from becoming the ruined sash. Pride does lead to a certain fall. Passion leads to emptiness and loneliness. Walk with GOD.
