“TOOK NO HEED TO WALK IN THE LAW OF THE LORD GOD”

2 Kings 10:31  :But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the LORD God of Israel with all his heart, for he did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam, who had made Israel sin.”  What a negative, self-centered way to walk.  He was a king of Israel who started out doing right said God in the previous verse 30.  He had all the worshippers of Baal killed and their temple destroyed.  Sounds like a great thing he accomplished and it was.  Verse 29 says, “However”.  That always changes the picture.  Verse 29 says, “Jehu did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam.”  He was the first king of Israel and the evil he did was to lead the people away from following God.  Jehu followed in his footsteps.  Instead of walking with the Lord, he followed the path of Jeroboam.  Be careful who we follow because it will lead to judgment.  God began to “cut off parts of Israel” in His judgment.  His heart was not right.  He did not intend to wholly follow the Lord.  He had his own plans to become rich, powerful and famous.  Instead his ways led to disaster.  Sometimes, God puts us in a leadership position and asks us to walk in His law, but selfish ambition will lead to nothing but trouble.  No matter, where God has put us in His ministry here on earth, let us “take heed to walk in the law of the Lord.”
