Many of you have raised children or are raising them now and have been through the trials, experienced the joy or, at times, perhaps have suffered the heartbreak.
Some of you may have been caught up in Dr. Spock’s advice or other ‘how to’ books on how to raise children.
I remember when my first child was born, I was fearful and anxious about many things I didn’t know and I lamented that he didn’t come with a set of directions.
But then after three more babies, I realized all it took was a little common sense and a whole lot of love.
I wish I had known then that I did have a role model on bringing up children. There are so many verses in the Bible we can use as a reference.
Look at Proverbs 20:7 for example. “When a man leads a righteous life, blessed are his children after him.” Proverbs 29:15. “Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it from him.”
A child must be taught right from wrong and Proverbs 17:6 reminds us that grandchildren are the crown of the ages. Proverbs 22:6 “Raise a child in the way of the Lord and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
Jesus loves children and His Word gives us advice on how we should bring them up.
