Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give
thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Do we really understand what it means to pray without ceasing? We read this many times and I think we have no depth of what Scripture is asking us to do. On the surface, it sounds like we are to begin our day with prayer and continue praying throughout the day. However, I am learning this is not what it is speaking of at all.
The more I learn and grow in my faith and trust in God, the more I understand we can go through the day with our normal work and chores and still be consumed with the Holy Spirit and His presence. He does the praying as our hearts are yielded to allow His thoughts to be our thoughts. In this way, we can pray without ceasing!
I have found as I work through my day that thoughts of different people and their needs will cross my mind and in that moment I pray for them. This is definitely the work of the Holy Spirit as His thoughts become our thoughts and prayers come forth unceasingly.
God never makes mistakes. He created us with the ability to do His will and purpose, and that is as Scripture tells us to pray without ceasing. Prayer is the ultimate purpose in life as we love one another. Galatians 5:14 says “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” It is prayer for one another that brings unity to the body of Christ. Without this love and prayer for others, we are not doing the will of our heavenly Father, wherefore all blessings flow!
“I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers
did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day,”
2 Timothy 1:3
