“Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written,
every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”
The above title is well known in a song we sing often, “One day at a time, sweet Jesus, that’s all I’m asking from you.” But we know Jesus never promised us but one day at a time for He knew these earthly vessels are too weak to handle more than that; even then, it must be in His strength. So the chorus to that song is our prayer that we often sing to Him:
“One day at a time, sweet Jesus, That’s all I’m asking from you. Just give me the strength To do every day what I have to do. Yesterday’s gone, sweet Jesus, And tomorrow may never be mine. Lord, help me today, show me the way One day at a time.”
It seems our fallen nature is determined to be anxious about everything – today, tomorrow and the future – but we have NO control over these things, for the control of our lives is in our heavenly Father’s hands. Can we possibly accept that and truly live one day at a time?
As I am maturing in age and in my walk with the Lord, I am beginning to realize that life is so much easier when we accept His will to happen just as He desires and He has planned, ONE DAY AT A TIME, and to yield to it and know that whatever takes place is according to His plan for us for that day. He will give us the wisdom and strength to deal with the challenges we encounter. When we receive the day with an open heart to trust His love, joy will come. This is His promise:
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to
prosper you and not to harm you; plans to give you hope and a future.”
WILL WE TRULY TRUST OUR FATHER GOD?
