“Whoever finds their life will lose it, and
whoever loses their life for My sake will find it.”
As a newborn child of God, it is very difficult to understand what “lose my life” truly means. But as years have passed and some maturity has developed, I am beginning to comprehend a little of the depth of losing my life for Jesus’ sake.
When the things of this world have lost their glitter and one begins to realize there is no real lasting fulfillment in them, we find there must be much more to life than “things,” so we begin our search for something deeper and more satisfying. It is as the old song goes:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His Glory and Grace.
This is when it truly begins to happen; the Holy Spirit places a hunger and thirst in our hearts and the desire will follow to “seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” We will draw closer in prayer and time alone with Jesus, and we will experience the sheer joy of His presence. We are motivated to work our lives according to what pleases Him, and our lives get lost in service for God’s glory and His purpose, not our own.
We have now lost our lives for His sake, and we find the most beautiful, peaceful and fulfilled lives we have ever experienced because it is Jesus living His life through us! Although we have reached this growth, and it is wonderful, there will still be trials and tribulations that will come. This is inevitable because more growth is needed and this is how we grow. But who fights our battles? It is the Holy Spirit living within us! He is the victory that overcomes the world!
“For we who are alive are always being given over to death for
Jesus’ sake, so that His life may also be revealed in our mortal body.”
2 Corinthians 4:11
