John 3:16Â “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
John 15:13Â “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.
James 2:23Â and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS,” and he was called the friend of God.
John 15:14Â “You are My friends if you do what I command you.
John 14:21Â “He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”
Luke 5:20Â Seeing their faith, He said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven you.”
As I read the Word, studied, listened to friends, mentors, teachers, and preachers, there is no doubt that Jesus was and still is my best friend. The big question is, what kind of friend am I to Jesus? Jesus came in the flesh, and died for whosoever believes. There is no greater love than to be willing to die for friends. I have to admit it was quite a while before I thought about my friend ship with Jesus, I thought about His with me, but not so much about my friendship with Him. Yes I was trying to do some things to please Him, but so much of my old flesh was still rattling around in me. So much so that self was probably served much more than Jesus was. So what must I truly be willing to do to be a friend of Jesus? Die, believe, have faith, love Him, trust, and obey. All His true disciples were willing to die for Him, and over the next 2,000 years millions did die for Jesus. Abraham believed God, was considered righteous, and was called a friend of God because of his belief. Jesus said we were His friends if we keep His commandments. He also tells me I prove my love for Him by keeping them. I am not saying I have to be 100 percent successful in all I try to do for Jesus, to be forgiven and spend eternity with Him, but if I am serious about being His friend, I need to strive for perfection in all He asks. Sounds easy doesn’t it? There is nothing I can do but believe Jesus, but true belief should lead to action on my part. Jesus did all that could be done for my salvation, now I need to ask what I can do for Him, and do it.
Lord, I pray that by living my life in the flesh for You, I will have the opportunity to prove I am Your friend.
