Love one another

John 13:34-35  “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Matthew 12:50  “For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother.”

1 John 2:11  But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

1 John 3:17  But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?

1 Timothy 5:1-3  Do not sharply rebuke an older man, but rather appeal to him as a father, to the younger men as brothers, the older women as mothers, and the younger women as sisters, in all purity.

Ephesians 4:15  but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,

Jesus made it pretty plain that I was to love my Christian brothers and sisters. Who are my brothers and sisters? Jesus made that pretty plain also. He said “those that do the will of my father in Heaven”. If they are brothers and sisters of Jesus, they are mine also. Paul said if I hate my brother I am in the darkness, the dark side is pretty scary, I’ll choose the light side with Jesus. He also said I would not know where I am going, which could mean I am lost, I don’t want that either. Jesus also said my love for my Christian family would prove I am a disciple of His. What a blessing it is to be a disciple of the Lord Jesus. Wouldn’t Christ’s church be a wonderful place to assemble in, and a fantastic witness to the lost, if we continued in obedience to the commands of Jesus? I am also supposed to subject myself to my family in Christ. This is a tough on going challenge. I am sure I do not have to subject myself to non-biblical request that would conflict with God’s Word. Being right in this area requires me to be in more constant contact with Jesus than I am sometimes. God wants me to treat the older men as a fathers, older women as Mothers, younger men as brothers, and younger women as sisters. All of my conversations with my Christian family should be spoken, with truth, and love. He does not want me to judge or condemn anyone, Jesus didn’t while here, so who am I to do it?. Unfortunately over the years I have seen and heard other brothers and sisters practicing this sin, and hate to say it, I have in the past. But work hard now not to. If I continue to study God’s Word and apply it to my life I will please God.

Lord, writing this has reminded me of many of my sins in the past, and some ongoing ones that are hard to overcome. I ask you to help me continue to grow towards  perfection in you. From your Word and experience with you, I know you will answer this prayer, Thank you.
