Luke 9:23 And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
Psalm 15:1-4 A Psalm of David. O LORD, who may abide in Your tent? Who may dwell on Your holy hill? He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, And speaks truth in his heart. He does not slander with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbor, Nor takes up a reproach against his friend; In whose eyes a reprobate is despised, But who honors those who fear the LORD; He swears to his own hurt and does not change;
John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
Philippians 4:13. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
What I understand about Jesus telling me I must deny myself, is that I need to completely surrender to Him, even to the point of a violent degrading death, such as He suffered Himself. I cannot abide in Him unless I deny myself. If I am abiding in Jesus I will produce much fruit, and without Him I cannot produce anything. Jesus sure doesn’t sugar coat it, and it does sound scary, but with Jesus I can do what He wants. Can I do 100 percent what Jesus ask me to do? No, but He knows that, and He knows my heart. He is patient with me and knows if I am serious about Him or not, He knows me far better than I know myself. My requirements to get where He wants me is to, Love Jesus, trust Him, and obey Him. This needs to be an ongoing every day effort on my part. I need to keep reminding myself He is my Master, and I need to humbly be in contact with Him constantly. He is not asking, but as a disciple of His he is demanding my obedience.
Lord, I need Your Holy Spirit to convict me, and keep me accountable to You every day.
