It is not too late to make plans for the New Year.  Regardless of where we want to go or what we want to do, plans help us to get there.   I have heard it said, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” And, yes, for Christians, Scripture can guide us in our planning.

Consider James 4:13-15: “Come now you who say, today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit…yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring….instead you ought to say, ‘if the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”  We are not to be arrogant in making our plans.

Proverbs 16:9 tells us: “The heart of man plans His way but the Lord establishes His steps.”  We should be sure our heart is in step with God since He “looks on the heart”.  (See I Samuel 16:7)  We could eliminate a lot of heartache and frustration if we ensure that we are following God’s Plan for our lives.

Not sure of the directions for your plans?  Remember that when God’s people were in the depths of despair and under punishment, God’s message to them in Jeremiah29:11 was, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope”. We need to plan our work and work our plan in 2015.  Make sure, however, that you have consulted God and you our working His plan for your life.

PRAYER: God, be with me in my planning.  Be my Guide and my enabler.  Help me to fit my plans to the plans that you have for me.  May they be plans that bring Glory and Honor to my Savior in Whose name I pray.  Amen
