What about witnessing monthly, weekly, daily? Yes, I know, the way we live our life is a witness. But, should we not witness even more directly? Need discipline?
God’s Word in Romans 10:13-15 says: “For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!” No, I’m not a pulpit preacher and many of us assume this Scripture is for our pastors only. It is known that many who need our Savior will avoid church, Sunday School and Pastors. IPeter 3:15-17 was written to the “elect”, to Christians. A portion of it says, “In your hearts, honor Christ the Lord as Holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience…ESV.
We may be the only one who will come in contact with that lost soul. We need to ask the question: if not me..who? If not now…when? If we don’t speak to them about Jesus, they may eternally be lost.
My prayer is: My Savior, your Word tells me of Your love for me. You have also told me to love my neighbor as myself; to love my enemies and those who treat me badly. Lord, give me Your kind of love so that I can witness faithfully to others. You have even told me You will help me to recall what I need to say. I pray for a hunger for Your Word that lets me grow in my witnessing for you. Beyond a need for disciplined witnessing, I need a hunger and thirst for a love like Yours that lets me see beyond the sin of the sinner to a soul who needs you. Let me then witness about Your great love and leave the results to you.
WITNESSING, A POEM BY RAYMOND SIDES:
EVERY TIME THE GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM IS PREACHED FOR A WITNESS
THE END TIME DRAWS A LITTLE MORE NEAR,
SO WE MUST PREACH THE GOSPEL WITH WORDS AND DEEDS
THREE-HUNDRED AND SIXTY-FIVE DAYS A YEAR.
