What about our prayer life? Do we need discipline to do it daily, hourly, without ceasing? Is this possible?
God’s Word in Isaiah states that we are to keep His house a house of prayer. We need to join with others so that we can share our prayer concerns and pray together. God’s Word in Ephesians 3:17 tells us that Jesus will dwell in our heart through faith. So, our heart is to be a center of prayer. God’s Word in Revelation 3:20 is a picture of Jesus’ desire to fellowship with us. He wants us to know Him as a personal friend; one who eats with us at our table.
My prayer is to know my Savior and Lord so well that my prayers are more than “stilted” words. I want to have conversations with a close and personal friend, one who has promised to “never leave nor forsake me”.
Lord, beyond discipline for my prayer life, give me a closeness that my “unceasing prayer” keeps me aware of your presence and guidance; not just in the “big” things but also in the in the routine decisions of life. Let me not use you as a last resort but a constant friend. In life’s crisis moments, let me remember that you are a friend who is closer than a brother. May I not forget that to you, my crisis is not a surprise. You are waiting to help.
WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS, ALL OUR SINS AND GRIEFS TO BEAR!
WHAT A PRIVILEGE TO CARRY EVERYTHING TO GOD IN PRAYER!
OH, WHAT PEACE WE OFTEN FORFEIT, OH WHAT NEEDLESS PAIN WE BEAR,
ALL BECAUSE WE DO NOT CARRY EVERYTHING TO GOD IN PRAYER!
