John 17:11 (KJV)

And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

Jesus continues to pray for his disciples. He asks his father to keep them in his name. So that they would have the same relationship that Jesus and the father share. What an outstanding request to be that close to the creator of the universe. Jesus knew he was leaving and wanted the men who he left behind to be able to proclaim the gospel. The fate of the entire world rested on their shoulders. The disciples needed to have a close relationship so they could proclaim the gospel through the hardship and persecution that would follow.

Today things have not changed in the world Christians are still being martyred. They are being killed and brutalized around the world. We are fortunate to live in the United States were we still have some semblance of religious freedom and the opportunity to share the gospel. We still have the same obligation the disciples had and we are the only hope for a lost and dying world. The only to God is a belief in his son as our savior.

Dear Lord:

Thank you for the closeness that you have given each of us who been drawn to you and have accepted Jesus as our savior. Give us the same courage and wisdom you gave the first disciples. So that we can proclaim the gospel throughout the world, giving each person an opportunity to be drawn to your saving grace.

In Jesus name we pray. Amen
