Lest we condemn!

“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

John 3:17

Oh my, is this ever a strong concern for each of us for unfortunately we are all guilty at one time or another in our lives. But it says, Jesus came not to condemn, so who are we? It just seems to come naturally as we look at others and find fault in their actions, speech, dress, color or creed. We are so prone to see imperfections in others and by so doing we criticize and condemn. It all comes from our sin nature from within, and we all battle this each day. We find in Matthew 7:

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

We never know all that is going on in the lives of others, so we cannot in all honesty judge or condemn others. There is an old adage:  “Don’t judge me till you walk a mile in my shoes or live a day in my life.” This is so very true and it is also written that what we see in others that we dislike is a reflection of ourselves, we just don’t see it.

We are walking on very treacherous waters when we criticize others, lest we be also criticized and condemned. Isn’t this what these Scriptures are saying to us? Let us ask God’s forgiveness and our brother’s and sister’s as well!!!

Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.”

Luke 6:37
